ELLIPTIGO RIDER COVERS 2,100KM (1,310-MILES) IN 7 DAYS!!!

JUNE 24, 2016

Stu with Medal and trophy

Stuart Blofeld, an ElliptiGO rider from Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, successfully took on the epic Wild Atlantic Way Audax cycling challenge in Ireland, on his 11-speed ElliptiGO. The event commenced at 6am on 17 June 2016.

The riders were tasked with riding 2,100km (that’s 1,310-miles!) from the southern-most point of Ireland to the northern-most point of Ireland, along the Wild Atlantic Way coastal route, all within 7 days and 7 hours. The task would require about 175-miles of riding, each day.

Stu had started the epic challenge alongside fellow ElliptiGO endurance rider Andy Nuttall and 55 other long-distance cyclists. After 1,200km of riding Andy was a few hours ahead of Stu (after Stu had been held up by damage to his rear wheel spokes). But Andy was struggling with an old ITB knee injury and finally made the decision at that point to withdraw from the challenge.

Stu had fought on as the sole ElliptiGO rider in the event and, after a series of ups and downs (literally!), battles against the elements, additional bike damage – and even a bike swap near the end – Stu had eventually crossed that finish line just in time to beat the cut-off!

To celebrate the occasion, the Event Director had a very special trophy and medal waiting for Stu at the finish line. What an incredible event – and what an incredible achievement!
